As a part of the Digital Ecologies Research Partnership (DERP), Internet communities such as Imgur, Reddit and Stack Exchange share public user data with a select group of academic institutions to support research on Internet social behavior. Most of the data from contributing organizations was otherwise available via public APIs. DERP is a single point of contact for researchers to get in touch with relevant team members across a range of different community sites. They envision that this will lower the friction to investigating these sites in more depth and broaden the scope of research happening within the academic community.
