Scientists from the Scripps Research Translational Institute launched DETECT study, where they obtain health data from smartwatches to predict COVID-19 infection. Using a mobile app, MyDataHelps, the researchers collect data from devices such as Fitbit, Apple Watch, and Garmin, from adult in the United States who consented to participate in the study. The research team reports that analyzing changes in heart rate, sleep and activity level, along with self-reported symptom data can diagnose cases with greater accuracy compared to looking at symptoms alone.
